WHAT'S NEXT: UMass returns to action Wednesday, April 5, when it hosts perennial national power Dartmouth in a 4:00 p.m. game on Ruth J. Totman Field. The Minutewomen then hit the road for a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference games. On Friday, April 7, the Minutewomen play A-10 newcomer St. Bonaventure at 3:00 p.m. in Olean, N.Y. On Sunday, April 9, UMass plays Duquesne at 1:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN: Dartmouth enters the game with a 4-1 record, including a perfect 3-0 record in the Ivy League. The lone Dartmouth loss was a 15-8 setback to defending national champion Maryland in the second game of the season. The Big Green opened the year with a 18-6 win over New Hampshire. Dartmouth has also posted wins over Yale (14-6), Columbia (15-1) and Brown (18-4). Dartmouth is led by All-American Jacque Weitzel who has scored 25 goals and four assists for 29 points.
SCOUTING THE BONNIES: St. Bonaventure enters the week with an 0-4 record. The Bonnies opened the season with a 12-5 loss to Howard followed by losses to Wagner (16-0), Canisius (12-6) and Ohio State (18-4). The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the Minutewomen and the Bonnies.
SCOUTING THE DUKES: Duquesne enters this week with a 3-1 record. The Dukes opened the season with a 12-8 win over Bucknell, which was followed by a 19-3 loss to Ohio State. Duquesne then won two straight recording victories over Davidson (13-9) and Drexel (9-5). The Dukes are led offensively by Katie Harner, Lauren Mincher and Lauren Dutch.
A DAY OF FIRSTS: The March 29th game with Vermont provided the UMass freshman class with an opportunity to get plenty of playing time, and they took advantage of it. Jada Emery (Princeton, N.J.), Kelli Kurtz (Schwensville, Pa.) and Leslie Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y.) all netted their first career goals. Goaltender Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) saw her first action, making four saves.
CALLING ALL HATS: Junior midfielder Rachel Ingraffea (Ithaca, N.Y.) scored four goals to lead UMass to an exciting 13-12 victory over New Hampshire. Ingraffea netted a single goal in the first half and then exploded for three second half goals. The four goals marks the most by an individual on UMass this season. It's also the first time a Minutewoman has recorded a hat trick this season.
HEAD COACH PHIL BARNES: Phil Barnes is currently in his first season at the helm of the Minutewomen lacrosse program. Barnes was named the sixth head coach in UMass' women's lacrosse history this past January. Prior to assuming the head coaching position, he was an assistant coach under Francesca McClellan for the past two years. Barnes came to UMass from Holy Cross where he was head coach of the Crusaders from 1996-97. He guided Holy Cross to a 5-9 record in his first season and was named Patriot League Coach of the Year. The five wins were the most for a Holy Cross team since 1992. Barnes also guided the New England II squad to the United States Women's Lacrosse Association National Championship in 1996.
