AMHERST, Mass. --Senior midfielder Stephanie Pavlick (Blue Bell, Pa.) scored four goals and junior goaltender Jen Nardi (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) made a season-high 17 saves, but it was not enough as the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team fell to Virginia Tech 8-6 at Totman Field.

The Minutewomen opened the scoring 33 seconds into the game on Pavlick's first goal. Freshman midfielder Kelli Kurtz (Schwenksville, Pa.) assisted on the goal. Virginia Tech rebounded with three goals on its first three shots of the game to knock starting goaltender freshman Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) out of the game. Nardi made some big saves early, but the Hokies managed to score three more goals to take a 6-1 lead at the 15:10 mark of the first half.

UMass stormed back with five straight goals before the half to tie the game at 6-6. Senior co-captain Rebecca Minaker (Newton, Mass.) started things off with a goal at the 12:30 mark. Pavlick followed with her second goal of the game before junior midfielder Rachel Ingraffea (Ithaca, N.Y.) scored to close the Hokie lead to 6-4. Pavlick then added her third and fourth goals of the game to tie the score before halftime. Pavlick's fourth goal came off an assist from senior midfielder Noelle Gorski (Cicero, N.Y.).

Virginia Tech scored the only two goals of a tightly played second half to earn the 8-6 Atlantic 10 Conference win. The loss drops UMass to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the A-10, while the win improves Virginia Tech to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the A-10.

Dawn Will scored three goals and added an assist, and Courtney Hubbard added two goals to pace the Hokies.

The Minutewomen will return to action on Wednesday, April 19, when they host A-10 foe St. Joseph's in a 3:00 p.m. game on Totman Field.
