Women's Lacrosse Falls To Harvard At Home, 7-6

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team fell 7-6 today to Harvard in Amherst, Mass., to drop to 0-1 this season, while the Crimson improve to 1-0 this year.
Harvard took the early 2-0 advantage in the game with goals by Katie Shaughnessy (23:12) and Lizzy Frisbee (21:58) in the first eight minutes of the game. But UMass would retaliate with two goals of its own to head into the intermission tied with the Crimson at 2-2. Senior Stephanie Pavlick (Blue Bell, Pa.) scored at the 10:55 mark, while freshman Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) chipped in a goal at the 1:21 with the assist by senior Rebecca Minaker (Newton, Mass.).
Harvard took a 3-2 lead four minutes into the second half on a goal by Megan Austin. But the Minutewomen answered with four consecutive goals to take a 6-3 advantage. Pavlick picked up her second goal of the contest at the 24:03 mark, while senior Noelle Gorski (Cicero, N.Y.) scored with 21:02 remaining in the game. Junior Rachel Ingraffea (Ithaca, N.Y.) and senior Rebecca Minaker (Newton, Mass.) scored the final two goals for UMass at the 13:13 and 10:37 marks, respectively. The Crimson scored four straight goals to take the lead with 1:12 remaining in the game on a game-winning goal by Frisbee.
UMass is next in action on March 15 against Cornell at 3:30 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y.
