Josh Penn enters his 21th season as the equipment manager for the Minutemen hockey team and was named the Director of Equipment Operations for all of UMass Athletics in August 2016. He is involved with all athletic equipment purchasing, reconditioning, uniform sizing, maintenance and inventory control. In addition, he oversees all game day preparations for equipment and locker room facilities for all home and away contests. He is also a member of the Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers (SPHEM).
 
During the 2017-18 season, Penn represented UMass at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York, serving an equipment manager for the USA Hockey squad that took home bronze at the tournament.

Prior to UMass, Penn was the assistant equipment manager for the New Jersey Devils from 2003 to 2005. He has been the head equipment manager for the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL (2001-2003), the Detroit Vipers of the IHL (2000-01) and the Florida Everblades of the ECHL (1998-2000).

A 1998 graduate of Union College (B.A. economics), Penn worked with the Dutchmen hockey team for three seasons. He resides in Longmeadow with his wife Heather and four children: Nate, Matt, Ben and Rachel.
