UMass' Michael Hrabal Inks NHL Contract With Utah Mammoth

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts junior goaltender Michael Hrabal has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Utah Mammoth, which will begin at the start of the 2026-27, the organization announced on Wednesday. Hrabal, who forgoes his final season of collegiate eligibility, becomes the 21st Minuteman in head coach Greg Carvel's UMass tenure to sign an NHL contract. The Prague, Czechia native was drafted in the second round, 38th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He will now report to the Tucscon Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL) on a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

"He has been an exceptional goaltender and teammate over his three years at UMass. He has left an indelible mark upon me personally and upon our hockey program by setting records for our program as a goaltender and by earning Hockey East Player of the Year honors. Mike exhibited tremendous growth during his time at UMass, and it was great to see him reach his full potential. He is ready to excel at the next level."
Hrabal, who was recently named a finalist for the 2026 Mike Richter Award (national goaltender of the year) was tabbed the Hockey East Player of the Year, Hockey East Goaltender of the Year and a unanimous Hockey East First Team All-Star selection as a junior.
Hrabal put together a stellar second half of 2025-26, helping the Minutemen vault from last place to second in the Hockey East standings. From January 1 on, the three-time Hockey East All-Star went 13-4-1 with four shutouts, a 1.33 GAA and a .959 save percentage. He allowed just two goals or less in 16 of those 18 games.
Overall on the season, Hrabal went 19-9-1 with a 1.95 GAA and 837 saves for a .937 save percentage over 29 games in net. He ranks third in the nation in save percentage, fifth in GAA and sixth in shutouts. A back-to-back winner of National Goaltender of the Month, Hrabal collected four weekly awards from Hockey East and was tabbed the Hockey East Player of the Month for January and the Goaltender of the Month for February.
Hrabal made 30+ saves 10 times this season, eclipsing the 40-save mark on three occasions, including a career high 50 stops against UConn on February 28. The netminder finished Hockey East play with a record of 12-5-1 and four shutouts to go along with a 1.55 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. He led all Hockey East goaltenders in GAA and save percentage, finishing just .001 off the league record in the latter.
In his three-year career in a UMass uniform, Hrabal appeared in 95 games and a total of 5,635 minutes, compiling a record of 54-33-7 with eight shutouts. His career save percentage (.925) and goals against average (2.32) rank third, while is wins total is second all-time in program history. He recorded 2,661 career saves, good for fourth all time.
