Colin Machat enters his second season with the men's and women's swimming and diving programs after coming to Amherst in September of 2023 as an assistant coach for the UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams. He spent six seasons as the head coach for Turners Falls High School. 

While at Turners Falls, he ran practices and dry land exercises, prepared lineups for dual meets and improved times throughout the year. Machat also had a swimmer qualify for States and break multiple school records as the head coach. 

Along with being a head coach at Turners Falls, he was a youth recreational head coach for the Montague Parks and Rec for six years (2017-2023), coaching for the youth recreation swim league. Machat setup meets with other teams during the season, prepared the event lineup for championship meets and improved the teams standings at the championship meet, along with personal best times for several swimmers. 

Machat is currently the Assistant Aquatics Director and head swim team coach for the Hampshire Regional YMCA in Northampton, Massachusetts, beginning in 2021. There, he runs the aquatics department, heading a team of 25 to help run and operate day-to-day services for members, and is in charge of rebuilding the associated swim team and managing all coaching staff. He also created in water and dry land workout plans for three various divisions containing 50 swimmers. 

Machat, a native of Holyoke, Massachusetts, attended Seton Hall University, earning his bachelor's in environmental sciences in May of 2017.
