  • Title:
    Men's Soccer Assistant Coach

Jon Davy is in his third season as an assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts men[apos]s soccer team. Davy[apos]s primary duties include coaching the team[apos]s goalkeepers, recruiting, coordinating the Massachusetts Soccer Academy, and day-to-day operations.

The Grimsby, England native came to UMass in June 2005 after a successful two-year stint as assistant coach at his alma mater, Lock Haven University.

[quote]Jon[apos]s been a great addition to our program. He has a great soccer-mind and is probably one of the best assistants I[apos]ve had as far as training and on the field coaching,[quote] said Koch. [quote]He has done a great job with our goalkeepers and is a good trainer for that position. He always has different ideas and keeps the players motivated.[quote]

In Davy[apos]s first two years at UMass, the Minutemen defense has improved measurably. In 2006, the Maroon & White set a single-season school record with 10 shutouts behind keeper Zack Simmons. As a team, UMass gave up just 19 goals on the year which was 11 fewer than 2005 and 20 fewer than 2004. The team goals against average has also improved droping from a 1.93 in 2004 to 0.96 in 2006.

Davy[apos]s work with Simmons - a former walk-on - has the redshirt keeper on pace to set a school-record for career saves as well.

While playing midfield and forward on the Lock Haven soccer squad from 1998-2002, Davy collected 12 goals and 11 assists, and was a PSAC-Scholar Athlete. During his career, he was named an NSCAA All-Region and First-Team All-PSAC forward.

After graduating from LHU in 2002 with an undergraduate degree in recreation management, Davy also acquired a master of liberal arts degree and is currently working towards a master of education. He holds several coaching certifications including the NSCAA Premier Diploma and the NSCAA Premier Goalkeeping Diploma. He also maintains English FA [quote]C[quote] License, a Brazilian BRUSA [quote]C[quote] License, a Dutch KNVB Coaching Certificate, and is working towards his UEFA `A[apos] License.

Davy also has several years of experience working with soccer summer camps at schools from around the country including UMass, Indiana, Bucknell, Lock Haven (Pa.) and Bloomsburg (Pa.).
