CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –– The University of Massachusetts mens soccer program (1-1-1) fell to Harvard (1-0-0) 4-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Minutemen were led by graduate transfer Liam Gainey, who connected on his first score as a Minuteman off a penalty kick.

Dean Linden added four saves to his junior campaign, bringing his season total to 16 through three games.

Breaking Down The Action

Harvard opened the scoring with a goal late in the ninth minute, taking an early 1-0 lead in the contest.
Linden recorded his first save of the night in the 18th minute with a diving save to keep the contest within one.
Gainey netted his first goal as a Minuteman in the 21st minute with a well placed right footed strike off a penalty kick to knot the game at one.
The Crimson struck again with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, giving Harvard a 2-1 advantage, a lead it held until the half.
Jack Comey snuck through the defense and found himself with a one-on-one with Harvard goalkeeper Jason Broome, but a diving stop by Broome kept the Minutemen off the board.
Harvard netted its third goal in the 51st minute with a transition score.
The Crimson added their fourth and final goal in the 81st minute to cap off the contest.
