March 11, 2026 | Men's Basketball

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three members of the Massachusetts men's basketball team have earned postseason recognition from the MAC, with Leonardo Bettiol earning Second Team honors, Marcus Banks Jr. being named to the Third Team and Danny Carbuccia garnering All-Freshman Team recognition.

Bettiol leads the Minutemen in scoring (17.8) and rebounding (7.9) this season, marks that are good for fifth and third in the MAC, respectively. His 60.6 field goal percentage also leads the conference and is good for 22nd nationally, while he's also fifth in the MAC with five double-doubles. Bettiol has reached double-figure points in all but three games this season, including in 15 straight entering the postseason. In conference games, Bettiol is fourth in the MAC in scoring (18.6) and fifth in rebounding (7.6). Bettiol has eclipsed 20 points on 14 occasions, including 32 in an overtime win over Bowling Green.

Like Bettiol, Banks Jr. has also impressed as a graduate transfer. He stands second on the team in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per game, which is good for eighth in the conference. Banks Jr. leads the team, stands second in the MAC and ninth in the country with 107 made threes, a mark that has tied UMass' program record. He has converted on 38.6 percent of his threes, good for sixth in the MAC. In the regular season finale, Banks Jr. scored 26 second-half points to finish with 31 for the game, as the Minutemen beat Ohio to advance to the MAC Tournament. He also scored 26 second-half points in a home win over Central Michigan three weeks prior. In that game, Banks Jr. knocked down a program-record 12 threes and finished with a career-high 37 points. Banks Jr. has reached double-figure points in 26-of-31 games, eclipsing 20 points eight times. He also scored 29 points against both Harvard and Boston College during nonconference play.

Carbuccia jumped onto the scene during his rookie campaign to earn a spot on the All-Freshman Team. He currently stands second in the MAC and 21st nationally in assists per game (6.3) while he leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.23). Carbuccia's 194 assists are good for eighth in program history for a season. He is also fifth on the team in averaging 6.7 points per game, while grabbing 1.8 rebounds per contest. Carbuccia has reached double-figure points eight times, including in four of the last six games, averaging 11.2 points per game during that stretch. Carbuccia set a program record with 17 assists in a win over Central Michigan while dishing 13 assists in a nonconference win over Harvard.
