Massachusetts Baseball Defeats Siena, 6-2, For Fourth Straight Win

February 27, 2026 | Baseball

Ty Fox recorded his first collegiate triple in the victory.

ABERDEEN, Md. - University of Massachusetts baseball defeated Siena, 6-2, on Friday afternoon in the first game of the neutral site series at Ripken Stadium.

UMass improved to 4-0 overall on the season, while Siena moved to 0-7 on the year.

Ty Fox went 2-for-2 on the day, including his first collegiate triple, while scoring one run. Matt Travisano also had two hits and a run on the afternoon. Anthony Tirado, Jack Beverly and Reece McCarthy all had a hit, as Tirado led the team with two RBI. Gavin O'Brien, Beverly and McCarthy all had one RBI each.

UMass got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. With Travisano on first with a single, a fielding error by the second baseman allowed Travisano to advance to second and Gavin O'Brien to sit on first. Beverly hit a single to shallow center field, driving home Travisano.

Massachusetts added two runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 3-0. Back-to-back walks to begin the inning put Ryan Kolben and Braden Sullivan on second and first, respectively. A double steal from Kolben and Sullivan placed them in scoring position, before a wild pitch allowed Kolben to cross the dish and Sullivan to sit on third. McCarthy hit an RBI single, helping Sullivan score.

Siena notched a run in the sixth, as the Saints scored stealing home to make it a 3-1 game.

The Minutemen quickly took back the run, while adding two more in the top of the seventh to pull ahead 6-1. Fox led off with a triple, marking the first of his career, before back-to-back hit-by-pitches loaded up the bases. Tirado singled up the middle, scoring Fox and McCarthy to make it a 5-1 contest. A sacrifice fly from O'Brien drove home Tirado to give UMass the 6-1 lead.

The Saints pushed a run across the plate in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to make it a 6-2 contest.

Callen Powers (1-0) earned the winning decision for Massachusetts. Powers tossed seven complete innings and allowed only two runs on five hits, walked two and dealt a career-high matching seven strikeouts.

For Siena, Tyler Sausville took the loss, giving up three runs on as many hits, walking three and striking out four in five innings pitched.

The Minutemen and Saints face off for game two on Saturday, February 28, at 1 p.m. at Ripken Stadium.
