Women’s Soccer Drops 3-0 Contest To Boston College

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer dropped a 3-0 game to Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field.

The Minutewomen move to 2-2-2 overall, while the Eagles are 4-1-2 on the season.

Boston College took an early 1-0 lead at the 5:53 mark with Emily Mara sending the ball into the top left of the goal. Despite the score, the Minutewomen outshot the Eagles, 8-7, which included six shots on goal compared to BC's four on net.

In the second half, the Eagles pulled ahead, 2-0, in the 55th minute. Sophia Lowenberg headed the ball to the left of the goal off a corner from Tess Barrett. Boston College added to its total to make it a 3-0 contest with a late goal at the 86:15 mark with a goal from Sophie Reale.

Boston College took 18 shots in the match, while Massachusetts tallied 16, but both teams placed nine shots each on goal. The Eagles had the advantage in corners over the Minutewomen, 11-3.

Amelia Bloom led the team in shots with four, including a career-high three on goal. Peyton Costello followed with three shots with two on goal, as Sarah DeFreitas and Sophia Foley had two shots apiece.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld played the full 90 minutes, saving six shots and allowing three goals. Olivia Shippee of Boston College made nine saves and did not let in a goal.

Massachusetts begins MACtion on Sunday, September 14, against Ball State on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, UMass will celebrate its senior class for Senior Day.
