Women’s Soccer Grabs Second Straight Draw In 0-0 Tie At UMass Lowell

The two teams went scoreless through a competitive 90 minutes.
LOWELL, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer tied for the second straight time after playing in-state foe UMass Lowell to a 0-0 draw on Sunday evening at Cushing Field.
The Minutewomen move to 2-1-2 overall, while the River Hawks are 1-3-1 on the season.
In a scoreless first half, both UMass and UMass Lowell were even in shots at five apiece. The two teams stayed even in shots on goal, 1-1, through a competitive 45 minutes, while Massachusetts held the 1-0 advantage in corners.
UMass Lowell outshot UMass in the second half, 14-6, taking a shot quickly that went wide over the top of the goal. The Minutewomen defense continued strong throughout the final 45 minutes to keep the River Hawks' shots from finding the back of the net. Neither team was able to breakthrough, resulting in a scoreless draw.
UMass Lowell took 19 shots in the match, while Massachusetts tallied 11. The River Hawks put seven of those shots on goal as the Minutewomen placed three. UMass had the advantage in corners over UMass Lowell, 4-2.
Caroline Dickson led the team in shots with four, including one on goal, followed by Sophia Foley with two shots with one on net. Five other Minutewomen recorded a shot on the evening.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld stopped seven of 19 shots faced through 90 minutes of play. Rachel Welch of UMass Lowell made three saves throughout the full game after seeing 11 shots.
Massachusetts will take a week long break before returning to Rudd Field on Sunday, September 7, for a 1 p.m. matchup against Boston College on ESPN+.
