Baseball Swept By Saint Louis In Doubleheader

The Minutemen prepare for a non-conference game on Tuesday, May 6 at UMass Lowell.
UMass moved to 13-29-1 overall on the season, including 6-18 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Louis improved to 28-19 on the year and 16-8 in the league.
Massachusetts continues on the road for a non-conference match up at UMass Lowell, in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, May 6, at 6 p.m.
Game 1
Saint Louis 18, Massachusetts 3
Ryan Kolben went 2-for-3 on the day, including a double, with a run scored. Five Minutemen followed with one hit each, which also included a double from Braden Sullivan. Zack Zaetta and Vance Bonior tallied one run apiece, with Anthony Tirado, Sullivan and Gavin O'Brien had one RBI each.
Saint Louis took an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the second.
UMass cut the deficit in half in the top of the third to make it a 2-1 game. Kolben led off with a single, before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. Tirado then singled to center field to drive home Kolben.
The Billikens plated five in the bottom half of the third with an RBI single and back-to-back homers, including a three-run long ball, pulling ahead 7-1. Saint Louis added two in the fifth to extend its lead to 10-1, before tacking on six runs in the sixth for a 16-1 lead.
Saint Louis scored two more in the eighth to push its lead to 18-1. In the ninth, an RBI double and a ground out run scored helped Massachusetts plate two, but the Billikens were able to hold on for an 18-3 win.
Callen Powers (3-3) went four complete innings with seven runs on eight hits, two walks and seven strikeouts, taking the loss for Massachusetts. Josh Cunningham (5-1) earned the win for Saint Louis, going six innings with one run allowed on four hits, no walks and striking out four.
Game 2
Saint Louis 10, Massachusetts 0
Tirado, Jack Beverly, Reece McCarthy, Marc Willi and Michael Toth all had one hit. Willi recorded a double in game two of the day.
Saint Louis put up a run in the first to lead, 1-0, early. The Billikens plated five more runs in the third, before tacking on two in the fifth to pull ahead 8-0. Saint Louis added a run in the sixth and the seventh to close out the series finale with a 10-0 triumph.
Sam Belliveau (2-3) took the loss for UMass, giving up eight runs on nine hits, two walks and twos trikeouts in 4.1 innings. Jack Weber (1-5) allowed no runs, three hits, no walks and struck out two in five complete innings to receive the win for Saint Louis.
