Bell is the only Minuteman to achieve the status twice to collect the fourth honor in men’s program history.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts junior Andrew Bell has been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-America Men's Swimming and Diving Second Team, College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday. Bell receives the honor for the second straight year and is the lone Atlantic 10 representative on the squads.
Bell, a South Windsor, Connecticut, native, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences and Mathematics. He claimed first place in 20 across both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, while breaking two previous pool records at the Justin Jennings Invitational from 1987 and 1994. During the Atlantic 10 Championships, the junior picked up two gold medals in both the one-meter and three-meter dive, breaking an A-10 Championship meet record in the three-meter dive with a six-dive total of 428.15. The junior qualified for the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships after becoming the champion in both the one-meter and three-meter dive at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. He tallied a 12-dive total of 747.25 in the one-meter dive and a score of 773.90, setting new school record in both events. Bell became the only Minuteman diver in school history to represent Massachusetts at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in back-to-back years.
While at the NCAA Championships, Bell finished 22nd in the one-meter event, with a six-dive total of 331.35, while scoring a 304.90 to earn 35th in the three-meter event. Bell earned A-10 Performer of the Week four times this season, leading to being named the league's Men's Diver of the Year in back-to-back seasons.
The honor marks the fourth in program history, as Bell is the only Minuteman to achieve the status twice. Along with Bell earning second team honors in 2024, Marc Surrette earned second team status in 1986, while Peter Koback was selected to the third team in 1990.
