The Minutewomen swept all six points in singles play.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis defeated Stonehill College, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
The Skyhawks took the doubles point, clinching the match at court No. 1. Belle Jonglertrakul and Mariana Campino won 6-1 over Stonehill's Madison Warren and Piper Remillard at No. 2, before Stonehill's Lilah Shallcross and Arya Chabria tied it up with a 6-3 win at court No. 3. In a close match, Julie Holte and Anneliese Beltran clinched the point with a 7-5 triumph over Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye.
In singles, UMass took back a point with Campino wining 6-0, 6-0 over Holte of Stonehill at No. 1. The Minutewomen grabbed another point at No. 3 singles, as Faessler defeated the Skyhawks' Shallcross, 6-3, 6-0. Massachusetts secured two more points to clinch the match, with Tye taking down Warren of Stonehill, 6-0, 6-1, and Jonglertrakul winning 6-4, 6-0 over Beltran of the Skyhawks.
Courts No. 5 and No. 6 played out the full match, as Calinescu won 6-1, 6-1 against Stonehill's Chabria and Makhanya won 6-4, 2-6 (10-7) over Alice Brito do Rio of Stonehill, respectively.
Massachusetts will host the Brown Bears for a Saturday, March 15 match at 1 p.m. at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
