Massachusetts Baseball Falls To Navy, 4-3, In Series Finale

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – University of Massachusetts baseball fell to Navy, 4-3, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
UMass moved to 5-5-1 on the year, while Navy improved to 6-9 overall.
Anthony Tirado led the way with two hits, including a double, followed by seven Minutemen with one hit each. Jack Beverly and Same Hill recorded their second and first home runs of the season, respectively, while Braden Sullivan and Mitchell Schroeder also hit doubles on the day. Tirado, Beverly and Hill scored the three runs of the afternoon for UMass, while Beverly and Hill had an RBI each.
Tirado scored the first run of the day in the first inning to give UMass a 1-0 lead. After being hit by a pitch, Tirado stole second, before stealing third. Navy's catcher threw the ball out of reach, allowing Tirado to come across home plate.
The Minutemen defense continued to dominant, holding off the Midshipmen's offense through three. Justin Masteralexis retired the side in the second to hold five strikeouts through two innings. Navy scored three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, which included a two-run double.
Home runs in back-to-back innings for Massachusetts helped knot the game up at 3-3. Hill recorded his first long ball of the year with a solo shot over the center field wall in the sixth cut the deficit to one run. Beverly blasted a shot down the right field line for his second home run of the season to knot up the contest in the seventh frame.
The Midshipmen walked off a run on a single down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth to come away with a 4-3 win.
Masteralexis started on the mound for UMass, allowing two runs on one hit, a walk and career-high matching seven strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work. Mikey Jensen finished his day for the Minutemen with one run on two hits, two walks and striking out four in 3.2 innings. Dylan Terwilliger had the loss for the Minutemen, going 1.1 innings and allowing one run on two hits and two walks.
Spencer Stephens received the win for Navy, tossing 2.1 innings and giving up only two hits and striking out four.
