Massachusetts Baseball Shut Out By Fordham, 6-0

BRONX, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts baseball tallied five hits, but left nine runners on base in a 6-0 loss to Fordham on Friday afternoon at Houlihan Park. The setback leaves UMass at 6-9-1 overall on the season and 1-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Fordham moved to 9-13 on the yar and 3-1 in league action.
Jared Muñoz and Matt Travisano totaled two hits each, which included Travisano's third double of the year. Braden Sullivan tallied one hit, as well.
Fordham scored two runs in the opening frame on a single to center field to take an early lead. The Rams added to their lead in the second inning with a two-run single up the middle to make it a 4-0 game. Fordham extended its lead in the third with two more runs to lead, 6-0.
Bobby McDonough went three innings with two hits, no runs, no walks and four strikeouts, while Austin Campbell tossed two complete frames, allowing no runs, no hits, four walks and two strikeouts to halt Fordham's offense in the final five innings.
The Rams were able to hold off Massachusetts' offense, though, to shut out the Minutemen, 6-0.
Robbie O'Connor (1-3) had the loss for UMass, giving up six runs on eight hits, walking four and dealing three strikeouts on the day. Aidan Dowd (2-2) earned the win for Fordham, allowing only four hits, walking two and striking out eight batters on the afternoon.
Massachusetts and Fordham continue the series with game two on Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
