Four-Game Win Streak Snapped by Davidson

AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts (13-11, 8-5 A-10) had its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday, dropping a 56-38 decision to Davidson (13-11, 8-4 A-10) at the Mullins Center.
Yahmani McKayle led the offense with 14 points, tallying 4 steals. Chinenye Odenigbo recorded a team-high six rebounds on the day.
Breaking Down The ActionÂ
- Davidson got on the board first with a layup at 9:36.
- The Wildcats then extended their scoring run to 8-0, resulting in a UMass timeout.
- After a long scoring drought to open the game, Megan Olbrys then put the Minutewomen on the board with a free throw.
- Following this, Olbrys scored Massachusetts' first field goal on a layup, but Davidson clashed back with a 3, making the score 13-3.
- Back-to-back plays off turnovers from Yahmani McKayle and Allie Palmieri made it a 5 point game with 3:55 to go in the quarter.
- Kasey Bretones nailed a 3 to cut the lead to 4 with 47 seconds remaining in the quarter, but the Wildcats negated this with a 3 of their own.

- With a full team effort, Massachusetts saw an 8-0 run, making it a 39-32 game with 2:54 minutes left in the third.
- UMass' stout defense in the third quarter saw them grab 4 more steals and hold Davidson scoreless since the 5:33 minute mark. Charlise Dunn scored the first points since 5:33 for Davidson with a made free throw with 40 seconds left, putting the score at 40-32 entering the final quarter of play.
- The Wildcats started the fourth quarter by increasing their lead to 13 points with baskets from Mallorie Haines and Millie Prior.
- With 5:54 left in the 4th, McKayle made two free throws to cut the lead to 10.
- The Minutewomen followed up their strong 3rd quarter with a strong defensive effort in the 4th.Â
- Palmieri hit a key 3 with 3:37 left to cut the Minutewomen deficit to 48-38.
- Davidson closed the game out with an 8-0 run, halting UMass' last push.
