Women’s Soccer Posts Third Straight Shutout With 2-0 Win At Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer earned its third straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over Ohio at Chieftain Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Additionally, UMass picks up its second consecutive clean sheet over a Mid-American Conference opponent.

The Minutewomen improve to 8-1-0 overall, including 2-0-0 in MAC play, while the Bobcats moved to 3-5-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the league.

Massachusetts scores first for the sixth time this season, as Nia Hislop put on the board first at the 28:03 mark. Taking a pass from Emma Burke, Hislop chipped in a shot to the top left of the goal to make it a 1-0 contest. Burke's assist marked the first in her career.

In the first half alone, UMass and Ohio were even in shots at seven apiece. The Minutewomen placed four of those shots on frame, while the Bobcats tallied two on goal.

Amelia Deren extended UMass' lead to 2-0 at 56:51 of the match. The Minutewomen were awarded a penalty kick, as Deren took the opportunity and converted for her third penalty kick goal of the season.

Ohio edged out Massachusetts in shots, 16-15, but the Minutewomen had the advantage in shots on goal, 9-7. Ohio tallied seven corners, while UMass had three on the day.

Monica Curry and Caroline Dickson led the team with three shots each, with Deren and Aline Traber recording two apiece. Five other Minutewomen registered one shot on the afternoon. Curry's three shots were all on goal, while Dickson place two on net.

Leah Nisenfeld totaled seven saves and allowed no goals in 90 minutes of action for her fourth shutout of the season, and the 11th of her career.

For Ohio, Ayla Rammel allowed two goals and saved seven shots through 90 minutes of play.

The Minutewomen return to Rudd Field to face Kent State on Saturday, September 26, at 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
