Women’s Soccer Rolls To 4-2 Victory Over Fordham

Ella Curry registered two points on two assists on the afternoon.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer took defeated Fordham, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field for its second straight victory.
Massachusetts improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the A-10, while Fordham dropped to 6-3-2 overall on the year, including 1-1-1 in league play.
Massachusetts' offense got off to a quick start in the first half, as senior forward Chandler Pedolzky scored the first goal of the day to put the Minutewomen ahead, 1-0. Graduate student midfielder Ella Curry sent the ball towards the box, as Pedolzky headed it towards the net, sending it past the Rams' goalkeeper in the 24th minute.
About five minutes later, senior midfielder Bella Recinos notched a goal of her own to extend UMass' lead to 2-0 at the 28:33 mark. Curry passed the ball quickly to junior forward Nia Hislop, before Hislop sent it into the 18-yard box over to Recinos. Recinos one-touched the ball, booting into the bottom right corner of the net.
In the second half, the Minutewomen pulled ahead, 3-0, with a goal from senior defender Juliana Ryan in the 50th minute. Graduate student defender Hannah Peric headed the ball towards the net that was blocked. The ball rolled down at the feet of Ryan as she one-touched the ball with her left foot, sailing it to the bottom left corner of the goal for her first of the season. Senior forward Ashley Lamond scored another goal for UMass at the 52:38 mark, booting the ball off a punch-out save from Fordham's goalkeeper into the back left-center of the net to make it a 4-0 contest.
The Rams were able to score two in the 54th and 71st minute of the match to cut their deficit in half, but Massachusetts went on to win, 4-2, on the day.
UMass outshot Fordham, 14-6, and placed 11 of its 14 shots on goal. In the first half alone, the Minutewomen tallied six shots, while the Rams had only one. Massachusetts also had the edge on corner kicks, 6-3, although both teams took two corners each in the opening 45 minutes.
Pedolzky, Ryan, Recinos and sophomore forward Caroline Dickson led the way with two shots apiece, while Pedolzky, Ryan and Recinos registered two shots on target each. Six Minutewomen also recorded a shot on the afternoon.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net, stopping two shots and allowing two. Fordham's goalkeeper Kyla King completed the match in net with four goals allowed and seven saves.
Massachusetts returns to Rudd Field on Sunday, September 29, when they host Rhode Island for a 1 p.m. match on ESPN+.
