HANOVER, N.H. – The Minutemen's (4-2-2, 0-1-0 A10) comeback efforts late in the second half fell just short on Homecoming weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision to George Mason (6-1-0, 1-0-0 A10) to open conference play.

- Mike Willis fired his first shot of the day off a free kick in the seventh minute, forcing Jaume Salvado to make his first save of the contest.
- UMass would keep attacking the net, as Aidan Kelly and Andrew Ortiz recorded shots on goal in the 20thand 28th minutes to keep the George Mason defense under pressure.
- The Minutemen would out-shoot the Patriots 3-0 in shots on goal and 6-4 in total shots in the first 45 minutes but were unable to find net as both teams entered the halftime break scoreless.
- George Mason would break the stalemate in the 60th minute, as Luis Maestre managed to sneak one by the diving arms of Geczy.
- Massachusetts would surrender a second goal in the 74th minute, after Marek Gonda finished a heading effort off of a corner setup from Will Carson and Maestre.
- Johan Feilscher answered for the Minutemen in the 83rd minute, rebounding a header attempt from Matt Fordham to score his first goal of the season.
- UMass created two scoring chances to try and find an equalizer in the closing moments but were unable to find net as time expired.
