Women’s Soccer Falls To #22 Saint Louis, 1-0

The Minutewomen ready for their first A-10 road match on Sunday at St. Bonaventure.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer fell, 1-0, to No. 22-ranked Saint Louis on Thursday evening at Rudd Field in the Atlantic 10 opener.
Massachusetts moved to 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the league, while Saint Louis improved to 5-1-3 overall on the year, including 1-0-0 in the A-10.
Both teams took a defensive stand in the first half, with the Minutewomen defending the Billikens 10 shots, and redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza stopped five of Saint Louis'. UMass got two shots off in the first half, which both went on target.
During the second half, the Billikens got on the board in the 62nd minute, as a pass from SLU's Hannah Larson was touched by Hope Kim in the six-yard box. UMass had a few chances in the final minutes but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
Saint Louis outshot Massachusetts, 18-5, in total, as the Minutewomen placed four of their shots on goal. SLU had the slight advantage on corners taking three, with UMass registering two.
Senior forward Chandler Pedolzky led the team in shots with two, followed by senior defender Karina Groff, junior forward Nia Hislop and senior forward Ashley Lamond with one apiece. All four Minutewomen had one shot on target.
Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net for UMass, saving six shots and allowing one goal. Saint Louis goalkeeper Emily Puricelli did not allow a goal in the contest's entirety and stopped four shots.
Massachusetts continues A-10 play with a road match at St. Bonaventure on Sunday, September 22. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., on ESPN+.
