Women’s Soccer Picks Up 1-0 Road Win Over St. Bonaventure

The Minutewomen earn their first A-10 win of the season as Chandler Pedolzky scored the lone goal of the match, and her third of the year.
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team earned its first Atlantic 10 win of the season with a 1-0 triumph on the road over St. Bonaventure at Marra Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Massachusetts improved to 65-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the A-10, while St. Bonaventure fell to 1-8-1 overall on the year, including 0-2-0 in league play.
Massachusetts' offense got off to a quick start in the opening 45 minutes, scoring early, making it a 1-0 contest at the 16:26 mark. On a corner kick, graduate student midfielder Ella Curry had a short pass in to senior midfielder Bella Recinos. Recinos then sent the ball into the six-yard box, before it was headed down into open space just outside the box by the Bonnies. Senior forward Ashley Lamond got a touch, kicking it towards the net, as fellow senior forward Chandler Pedolzky guided the ball behind her with her left foot to the goal and sending it past the St. Bonaventure goalkeeper in the lower corner.
During the second half, both teams' defenses held off one another to keep the game at 1-0, in favor of Massachusetts. St. Bonaventure had an opportunity off a corner in the 66th minute to tie it up at 1-1. The ball rolled into the net, but the Bonnies were called for an offside prior to the goal, as UMass came away with the 1-0 victory.
In the first half, the Minutewomen outshot the Bonnies in the first, 9-0, with five of shots on target. UMass added nine more shots in the second half of action to bring its total to 18 throughout the match, while placing 13 total on goal, marking a season-high . St. Bonaventure took five shots in the final 45 minutes and put four on net. Massachusetts had eight corners, registering four in each half, while St. Bonaventure had two, both taken in the second half.
Pedolzky led UMass in shots with five, matching a career-high, and sent two on net. Recinos, graduate student forward Grace Pinkus and sophomore forward Caroline Dickson followed with three shots apiece, as Pinkus put all three of her shots on goal.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza completed the match in net with four saves and no goals allowed, recording her sixth shutout of the season and the 17th of her career, tying her for seventh in the record book. St. Bonaventure's goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger allowed one goal and stopped 12 shots on the afternoon.
Massachusetts continues A-10 competition with two matches at Rudd Field on Thursday, September 26, against Fordham at 4 p.m., before welcoming Rhode Island on Sunday, September 29, for a 1 p.m. contest. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
