Massachusetts Hockey Adds Graduate Transfer Joey Musa To 2024-25 Roster
July 23, 2024 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts will welcome 5-9 160-pound left-shot forward Joey Musa to its 2024-25 roster as a graduate transfer from Dartmouth, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Tuesday. A native of Orange Park, Florida, Musa is the older brother of Minutemen sophomore Jack Musa, and joins the Minutemen with one season of eligibility remaining.
"Joey is a hard two-way forward that has the ability to score and make plays, while also bringing an element of physicality and tenacity without the puck, said Carvel. "He is a mature player that knows college hockey well and we are excited to add his experience and leadership to our program."
In his three seasons at Dartmouth, Musa played in 93 games while logging 41 points on 12 goals and 29 assists and was an assistant captain for two of his three campaigns with the Big Green. He led the squad in blocked shots as a junior in 2022-23 with 35 and closed out his Dartmouth career with his most productive collegiate season as he put up 17 points (6g, 11a) in 2023-24.
Prior to joining the Big Green, Musa spent the 2019-20 season with the Langley Rivermen in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he totaled 37 points on 14 goals and 23 assists over 60 contests. He graduated from Trinity Pawling School (Pawling, New York) in 2019 where, as a four-year member of the Pride, he played in 99 games and registered 90 points (29-61-90), setting a program record for career points. As a junior, Musa helped lead Trinity Pawling to an undefeated season in Founders League Play, a league championship and a berth in the Prep Large School Tournament. H served as team captain as a senior and was named to the USHS Prep All-Founders League Team.
While at Trinity Pawling, Musa also played for the Mid-Fairfield Rangers in Connecticut for two split seasons. In both those years, his U18 team earned a berth to USA Hockey's National Championships. Musa represented the Southeastern District at three consecutive USA Hockey National Festivals (2016-18).
