Massachusetts Hockey's Hrabal Tabbed A Finalist For The Mike Richter Award

March 20, 2026 | Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts hockey junior goaltender Michael Hrabal has been named one of three finalists for the 2026 Mike Richter Award, which is given annually to the top goalie in men's NCAA Division I hockey since 2014. The Prague, Czechia native is joined by Trey Augustine of Michigan State and Josh Kotai of Augustana as the additional two finalists.

A committee of voters, made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media, have selected the finalists and will ultimately choose a winner that will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four.

The 2026 Hockey East Player of the Year, Hrabal was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Year and was a unanimous selection as a First Team All-Star after putting together a stellar second half of 2025-26, helping the Minutemen vault from last place to second in the Hockey East standings. Since January 1, the three-time Hockey East All-Star is 13-3-1 with four shutouts, a 1.25 GAA and a .958 save percentage. He allowed just two goals or less in 15 of those 17 games.

Overall on the season, Hrabal currently is 19-8-1 with a 1.98 GAA and 810 saves for a .936 save percentage over 28 games in net. He ranks second in the nation in save percentage, seventh in GAA and sixth in shutouts. A back-to-back winner of National Goaltender of the Month, Hrabal has collected four weekly awards from Hockey East thus far this season and was tabbed the Hockey East Player of the Month for January and the Goaltender of the Month for February.

Hrabal has made 30+ saves 10 times this season, eclipsing the 40-save mark on three occasions, including a career high 50 stops against UConn on February 28.

The netminder finished Hockey East play with a record of 12-5-1 and four shutouts to go along with a 1.55 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. He led all Hockey East goaltenders in GAA and save percentage, finishing just .001 off the league record in the latter.
