Massachusetts Baseball Takes Game One Over St. Bonaventure, 10-7

Sullivan and Gervasi recorded home runs on the day, including a three-run shot by Gervasi.
UMass improved to 19-23 on the year, including a 9-7 Atlantic 10 record, while St. Bonaventure moved to 15-25 on the year with a 5-11 league record.
Austin Burgess led the way, going 2-for-3 on the day with a run and three RBI. Six Minutemen contributed a hit, including Braden Sullivan and Mike Gervasi with their fourth and 13th home runs, respectively. Gervasi recorded three RBI alongside Burgess, while Sullivan totaled two RBI. Kevin Skagerlind, Marc Willi and Sullivan all had two runs each.
St. Bonaventure took an early 6-0 lead in the top of the second with two home runs. In the bottom of the second, UMass got back within one, registering two home runs of their own. Willi singled to left field, before Sullivan blasted the ball over the left center field wall for his fourth homer of the year to make it a 6-2 game. Michael Toth reached first on a dropped third strike, as Skagerlind reached first with a four-pitch walk. With two outs, Gervasi clubbed his 13th long ball of the year with a three-run shot over the center field hedges, making it a 6-5 contest.
The Minutemen grabbed the lead in the fourth, tallying two runs. With one out, Skagerlind doubled to right center field. Burgess hit a single up the middle to drive home Skagerlind and tie up the game at six apiece. After Gervasi reached first on a walk, Carter Hanson doubled to right field as Burgess came across the dish to give UMass a 7-6 lead.
In the seventh, Massachusetts extended its lead to 10-6. Jack Beverly led off with a single, before Willi reached first on an error. Sullivan reached first on a throwing error by the pitcher, as Beverly came around to score to make it 8-6. After two outs, Burgess registered a two-run single, driving in Willi and Sullivan.
An RBI single added another run in the top of eighth for the Bonnies, but the Minutemen maintained the lead to win 10-7.
Renn Lints (3-0) earned his third winning decision of the season for UMass after tossing five complete innings with six runs on as many hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Leif Bigelow received his first save as a Minuteman, striking out one batter in 1.2 innings of work.
Michael Salina (2-5) took the loss for St. Bonaventure, allowing seven runs on six hits, four walks and dealing four strikeouts in 3.1 inning pitched.
Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure will play two on Saturday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m. at Earl Lorden Field.
