Baseball Falls To Quinnipiac, 11-6

Gervasi recorded his 12th home run of the season in the loss.
UMass moved to 18-23 on the year, while Quinnipiac improved to 17-23 overall on the season.
Jake Given and Jack Peters tallied two hits apiece, followed by Kevin Skagerlind, Matt Travisano, Mike Gervasi and Marc Willi all with one, including a three-run homer from Gervasi for his 12th of the season and Travisano's first collegiate triple. Gervasi led the team with two runs and three RBI, as Peters registered an RBI.
Quinnipiac got on the board first in the opening frame on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead early. UMass knotted it up in the bottom of the second at one apiece. Gervasi led off with a four-pitch walk, before Willi was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Peters doubled up the middle to score Gervasi from second with the final out recorded on the play.
The Bobcats hit a solo home run to take back the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Quinnipiac added two more in the top of the fifth to pull ahead, 4-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Massachusetts took the lead at 6-4 with a five-run inning. Given started off the inning with a single, before Peters took first after being hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt from Skagerlind advanced Given and Peters to third and second, respectively.Travisano reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop, as Given and Peters came across the plate to get back within one at 4-3. Carter Hanson saw four straight balls to take his place at first, before Gervasi clubbed a three-run long ball, marking his 12th of the season, to give the Minutemen a 6-4 lead.
Quinnipiac took back the lead, 9-6, in the seventh with five runs scored. The Bobcats added two more in the ninth to bring the game to its final score of 11-6.
Jacob Terwilliger (0-3) took the loss for the Minutemen, going two complete innings with four runs, three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Frank Caska (2-1) had the win for the Bobcats, pitching one complete inning and allowing two hits with on strikeout.
Massachusetts returns to A-10 Conference play with a three-game series against St. Bonaventure on Friday, May 3, through Sunday, May 5. Friday's game is slated for 3 p.m., before Saturday's 1 p.m. contest. Sunday is set for a 12 p.m. first pitch. Friday and Sunday's game will be streamed on ESPN+.
