Three Selected As UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Gaskins, McGowan and Toth to be honored at UMass Sports Luncheon.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts student-athletes Godot Gaskins of men's track and field, Fiona McGowan of women's lacrosse and Michael Toth of baseball were selected as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union. The trio will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
 
Gaskins placed 11th in the 400m at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend. His time of 47.08 is not only the fastest 400m time by a Minuteman this season but is the fastest in all of the Atlantic 10.
 
McGowan posted 12 points on four goals and eight assists as the Minutewomen extended their winning streak to 10 with a pair of victories last week. McGowan recorded the most points by an Atlantic 10 player in a single game this season with a tied for career-high 10 in a 19-9 win over (RV) UConn Wednesday. The graduate student finished with a hat trick and tied her career-high in assists with seven for the third time this season. McGowan surpassed her previous career-high for assists in a season with 51 and is five away from setting a new UMass single season record. The attacker added a goal and an assist in a 19-2 win over George Washington on Saturday to help the Minutewomen improve 8-0 in league play.
 
Toth and UMass had a 3-1 week, picking up a 12-3 win over Sacred Heart, a game one 10-7 win in extra innings at George Mason, and a 9-6 win in game two of the George Mason series. Toth had a .438 batting average, a .526 on base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage on the week, recording seven hits, including two doubles and a home run, two walks, six RBI and four runs. Against Sacred Heart, he went 2-for-4 with a home run, marking his first of the year, totaling two RBI on the long ball and adding two runs on the day. In game one at George Mason, Toth tallied two hits, including a double, had a walk and one run. He was 3-for-4 in game two at George Mason on Saturday, recording a double, had one run and a career-high three RBI. The sophomore added an RBI in the final game of the series at George Mason on Sunday. In the field, Toth totaled 24 putouts and five assists, while catching four stealing.
