Tennis Takes Down Rhode Island On Senior Day, 4-1

The Minutewomen secure their fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 victory.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts earned a 4-1 victory over Atlantic 10 rival , University of Rhode Island on Senior Day at the Mullins Tennis Courts. The Saturday afternoon win marked UMass' fourth straight in league play.
Massachusetts improves to 12-7 on the year and 4-1 in the A-10, while Rhode Island falls to 13-6 overall, including 3-3 in the conference.
The Minutwomen claimed the doubles point with victories at courts No. 1 and No. 3. The pair of Mariana Campino and Renata Farima defeated the Rams' Sophie Herrmann and Klara Nelander, 6-4, at o. 3 doubles, before Pryanka Shankar and Steph Hylton of Rhode Island won 6-3 at No. 2 over Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye. The duo of Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul secured the doubles point, nabbing a 7-5, come-from-behind win over Rhode Island's Nadia Rajan and Nikki Fernando.
UMass continued its momentum, seizing wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles. Farima earned. 6-1, 6-1 victory over Hylton of URI on court No. 5 to lead 2-0, but Rhode Island's Fernando notched the lone point for the Rams with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Faessler at No. 3 singles. On court No. 1, Hack downed the Rams' Herrman, 6-1, 6-2. Jonglertrakul clinched the match for the Minutewomen in a second set tiebreaker, winning 6-2, 7-6(8) at No. 2 singles.
Massachusetts prepares to travel to Lake Nona, Florida for the A-10 Championship at the USTA National Campus beginning on Wednesday, April 24 through Saturday, April 27. Seeding and match times are yet to be determined.
