No. 3 Massachusetts Advances To The A-10 Semifinals With A 4-0 Victory Over No. 6 Rhode Island

The Minutewomen move on to take on No. 2 Saint Louis on Friday, April 26 at 5:30 p.m.
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 3 University of Massachusetts took down No. 6 Rhode Island, 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals on Thursday night at the USTA National Campus.
The win moved UMass to 13-7 overall on the season, (5-1 in A-10 play) while Rhode Island finished the year with an 14-7 record.
The Minutewomen seized the doubles point to come out with an early 1-0 lead. The duo of Amelia Tye and Ella Faessler started off the match with a 6-3 victory on court No. 2 over Rhode Island's Ava Grnja and Priyanka Shanker. At No. 1 doubles, Danielle Hack and Thamponpan Jonglertrakul secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win of their own atop Nadia Rajan and Nikki Fernando of the Rams. Renata Farima and Mariana Campino were up 5-3 against Rhode Island's Sophie Herrman and Klara Nelander before their match went unfinished.
Farima kept UMass' momentum surging in singles action, capturing a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Rhode Island's Steph Hylton. Danielle Hack continued Massachusetts' prowess on court No. 1, where she completed a 6-2, 6-2 win of her own atop Hermann of the Rams. At No. 2 singles, Jonglertrakul clinched the match by way of a 6-4, 6-3 win over Rhode Island's Rajan.
The remaining matches on courts No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 went unfinished.
