UMass reclaimed the lead in the fifth, plating two runs. Burgess led off with a single followed by a walk for Matt Travisano and Gervasi getting hit by another pitch to load the bases once more. Beverly hit an RBI ground out, as Burgess headed home. Toth gave the Minutemen a 5-3 lead off an RBI single that scored Travisano.
The Patriots took a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning after notching three runs. George Mason remained in its one run lead until through the seventh and eighth innings, but UMass rallied in the ninth.
