Massachusetts Baseball Falls, 7-2, In Game One To Seton Hall

The Minutemen and Pirates finish out the series with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24.
<strong>SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – </strong>University of Massachusetts baseball fell to Seton Hall, 7-2, on Friday afternoon at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium. UMass moves to 5-12 on the season, while Seton Hall improves to 14-8 overall.<br />
<br />
The two teams close out the weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24, starting at 12 p.m.<br />
<br />
Marc Willi and Matt Travisano registered a team-high two hits apiece, while Travisano added one RBI. Jack Beverly had one hit, as Willi and Kevin Skagerlind scored a run for the Minutemen.<br />
<br />
The Minutemen struck first in the top of the first, as Skagerlind started off with a walk, before advancing to second on a passed ball and stealing third. A wild pitch on a strike out allowed Skagerlind to come across the plate to give UMass a 1-0 lead. Seton Hall knotted the contest up at with a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.<br />
<br />
A three-run second frame for the Pirates put them ahead, before another RBI single in the third gave Seton Hall a 5-1 lead. Seton Hall extended its lead further with a two-run single in the fourth. <br />
<br />
Willi led the fifth inning off with a single, before two walks to put Michael Toth and Austin Burgess on base. In a two-out, bases loaded situation, Travisano was walked, allowing Willi to score to make it a 7-2 game, with the Pirates leading.<br />
<br />
Sam Belliveau (2-3) had the loss for Massachusetts, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs on nine hits, one walk and striking out four, matching a career best. Alex Nicolosi (3-0) earned the win for Seton Hall, giving up one run on two hits, walking three and dealing three strikeouts in three complete innings.
