Massachusetts Women's Track & Field Win New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts women's track & field team took home first place at the New England Championships at the TRACK at New Balance on Saturday Afternoon. The Minutewomen won with a total team score of 119.50 while Rhode Island finished behind them with a score of 113.
ÂHighlights from competition:
Â- Katelyn Gorgenyi took gold in the 60m hurdles for the second consecutive weekend. Gorgenyi's winning time of 8.60 is a new personal best and is good for second all-time at UMass.Â
- Jennifer Williams also claimed points in the 60m hurdles, taking seventh with a time of 9.01.
- The Minutewomen had three scorers in the 1000m including gold medalist Alex Costantino who won with a time of 2:52.47. Elise O'Leary also finished on the podium, claiming bronze while Simone Harrison picked up two points by coming in seventh.
- In the triple jump, freshman Shakira Cadet won bronze after jumping 37' 7.25". Winnie Sekyaya was right behind her in fourth with a mark of 37' 6.5" while Ruth Michel came in seventh.
- In the 400m, Sadai Headley-Mawasi grabbed a bronze medal of her own, finishing in a time of 57.53.
- Ella Bosselman and Rebekah James picked up three points for the Minutewomen in the mile run. Bosselman came in seventh with a time of 5:12.87 while James was right behind her in eighth with a time of 5:13.08.
- Faith Richardson took fourth in the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 7.72.
- Ali Murphy had a fifth place finish in the 200m, crossing the line with a time of 25.32
- Sarah Witt finished the 500m with a time of 1:18.43 to take seventh.
- Tess Rancourt came in seventh in the shot put with a toss of 39' 9.25".
- Charlotte Henning placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:18.62.
- The 4x400m relay team consisting of Caroline Mullady, Faith Richardson, Grace Hanafin, and Marielsa McBride picked up three points with their sixth place finishing time of 3:56.21.
The Minutewomen will remain idle until the beginning of outdoor season when select athletes will travel to Florida for the UCF Knight Invite on Friday, March 22.
