Massachusetts Baseball Falters At Citadel In Game One, 6-2

Minutemen and Bulldogs square of for game two on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m.
CHARLESTON, S.C. – University of Massachusetts baseball fell to The Citadel, 6-2, on Friday evening at the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
UMass moves to 3-9 overall, while Citadel improves to 12-5 on the season.
Kevin Skagerlind went 2-for-4 on the day, while Matt Travisano, Carter Hanson, Nolan Tichy and Braden Sullivan contributed one hit apiece, as Travisano and Tichy both recorded a double. Travisano and Sullivan plated one run each, while Hanson drove in two RBI.
The Citadel took an early 2-0 lead in the third, but UMass took a run back in the fourth. Travisano started off the inning with a double to left centerfield. Hanson singled to right field to drive in Travisano to make it a 2-1 game.
The Minutemen knotted up the game, 2-2, in the top of the fifth. Hanson was walked with the bases loaded, sending Sullivan across the plate. In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs reclaimed the lead with an unearned run scored. Citadel plated a run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to take the lead and win 6-2.
Sam Belliveau (2-2) had the loss for the Minutemen, allowed six runs, with five earned, 10 hits, two walks and struck out three in a career-high 7.1 innings pitched. Landon Slemp received the winning decision for the Bulldogs, tossing 4.2 innings, and giving up two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out one.
Massachusetts and Citadel are set for game two of the series on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
