Massachusetts Women's Track & Field Sit In First After Day One Of New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team finished up day one of the New England Championships at the TRACK at New Balance on Friday night. The Minutewomen are currently in first with a team score of 48.5 after seven scored events.

 
  • Courtney Rowland added her second gold medal in equally as many weeks in the high jump. Rowland won  the event with a jump of 5' 6.5".
  • Two more Minutewomen added points in the high jump as Marielsa McBride and Tessa Bostwick finished fifth and sixth respectively.
  • Gabriella Pagnini claimed bronze in the weight throw with a toss of 55 feet and 1.5 inches. The toss is tied for the second best throw in school history.
  • Megan Frazee added another bronze medal for the Minutewomen in the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet and 1.25 inches.
  • In the long jump, the Minutewomen had a pair of scorers as Jordan Lafave placed fifth and Shakira Cadet took eighth.
  • Sadai Headley-Mawasi snuck into the 400m finals as the senior took eighth in the prelims with a time of 57.86.
  • Sarah Witt advanced to tomorrow's 500m finals after a 1:17.76 performance today.
  • Charlotte Henning came in seventh in the 800m prelims with a time of 2:18.53 and will compete in the finals.
  • Three athletes qualified for the 1000m finals, headlined by Alex Costantino's first place finish in the prelims. After Costantino, was Elise O'Leary in third and Simone Harrison in eighth.
  • Ali Murphy placed sixth in the 200m prelims to make the tomorrow's finals with a time of 25.42.
  • Rebecca Hartman took home gold in the 5000m with a personal best time of 16:57.98. The finish is good for third all-time at UMass.
  • Behind Hartman was Sydney Adams who got five points for the Minutewomen, placing fourth with a time of 17:28.39.
 

The Minutewomen will resume the New England Championships tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
