AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team begins its 2024 campaign at the Bash In The Boro, as it takes on Georgia Southern, Radford and Merrimack from Feb. 9 to Feb. 11 in Statesboro, Georgia.

2023 Rewind:
Massachusetts comes into 2024 after earning a 16-34 record a season ago. The Minutewomen return 13 players from a season ago including eight who played in over 30 games. At the plate, Massachusetts brings back Chloe Whitter who led the team in batting average (.315) and senior Bella Pantoja who paced the Minutemen in home runs (3) and runs batted in (24). On the rubber, junior Julianne Bolton comes back to Sortino Field after leading the pitching staff in innings pitched (112.0) and appearances (27.0).

Scouting The Field:

Georgia Southern - The event host, Georgia Southern comes into the 2024 season fresh off a 17-34 campaign in 2023. The Eagles host The Bash In The Boro for the sixth straight season, going 5-1 at the event last season. Offensively, the Eagles return its top two hitters from last season in Emma Davis and Faith Barth. Davis led the team with a .353 batting average, totaling 49 hits and 12 RBI. Barth followed with a .318 batting average recording 49 hits and 13 doubles.

Radford - The Highlanders come to Statesboro after achieving a 16-34 record last season. Radford is the lone competitor who returns to Statesboro in back-to-back seasons, earning a 2-3 record at the 2023 Bash In The Boro. The Highlanders return Lexie Roberts to anchor their lineup, the outfielder led the team in batting average (.333) and hits (52).

Merrimack - Merrimack held an 18-30 record a season ago, earning a program-high 11 games in conference. The Warriors reached their first-ever NEC tournament in 2023, reaching the tournament final. Merrimack returns Ellen Hubbard, the reigning NEC Softball Player of The Year, and a member of the NEC All-Conference first team, as well as Courtney Lanpher, a NEC all- tournament team and second team selection in 2023.

Looking Ahead:
The Minutemen turn their attention to Texas, facing Houston, Nicholls, Northwestern State and UTSA from Feb. 16-18 at the Houston Classic.
