Women’s Hoops Defeated On The Road At Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team fell on the road to Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym, 64-50. Stefanie Kulesza tied her career-high in steals with eight to mark the third-most steals in a single game in program history.
Kristin Williams led the Minutewomen with 17 points while Stefanie Kulesza and Alexsia Rose each chipped in nine. Bre Bellamy added five rebounds with Lilly Taulelei finishing with three steals and two blocks.
UMass opened the afternoon shooting 50-percent from the field to go up 9-8 after a Bellamy layup with 5:08 on the clock. The Rams followed with a 6-0 run to go up 14-9 before a Chinenye Odenigbo bucket with just over two to go in the opening quarter. Fordham made four of its last five field goals in the quarter to spark a 10-2 run that saw the home team lead 18-11 at the first break.
Fordham held a 38-17 lead at the halftime break after shooting 54-percent for the half while holding the Minutewomen to 29-percent from the field. The Rams used a 34-8 run over nearly 14 minutes of game time to build their halftime advantage.
Rose scored seven of her nine points in the third quarter, including going 4-of-4 at the line during the frame. Fordham shot 58-percent from the field to outscore the Minutewomen 17-9 to take a 55-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
UMass opened the fourth on a 10-3 run after a Dallas Pierce 3-pointer with 7:07 to go. The Minutewomen held the Rams without a field goal for nearly six minutes of game time while Williams converted from deep with just under two to play to cap off a 12-0 UMass run that brought the score to 61-48. UMass outscored Fordham 24-9 in the final quarter and shot 9-of-14 for 64-percent during the 10-minute span.
UMass returns home to the Mullins Center on Wednesday for their Play4Kay game against Rhode Island. The Minutewomen and Rams tip-off at 6 p.m. on NESN+ and ESPN+.
