Wiesner Sets Program Weight Throw Record in Opening Weekend

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team kicked off their indoor season at the UConn Husky Challenge on Thursday and Friday, wrapping up the opening weekend in Boston for the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday.  Ainsley Wiesner highlighted the weekend for UMass, setting a new school record in the weight throw with a distance of 17.34m.
 
Highlights from Competition:
 
UCONN HUSKY CHALLENGE
  • Ainsley Wiesner placed second in the weight throw, recording a new school record of 17.34m.
  • Chloe Taylor claimed gold in the women's pole vault, recording the fifth-best pole vault height in program history.
  • Sadai Headley-Mawasi (4th) Ali Murphy (T-7th), Caroline Mullady (9th), and Alexandria Scott (10th) each notched top-10 300m times in the Massachusetts record books, clocking in at 40.49, 41.24, 41.74, and 41.86 respectively.
  • Headley-Masawi and Murphy scored podium sports in the 300m, placing second and third.
  • Faith Richardson tied her previous time of 7.64 in the women's 60m, good for second in program history. Richardson claimed silver in the finals with a time of 7.69.
  • Jennifer Williams also scored silver in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.86.
  • Naomi D'Souza earned third in the women's 500m with a time of 1:21.48.
  • Courtney Rowland emerged victorious in the women's high jump, scoring 1.60m. Shakira Cadet placed second with a height of 1.55m
  • Ruth Michel (2nd) and Bridget Lee (3rd) each scored for UMass in the women's long jump, scoring 5.54m and 5.41m respectively.
  • Natalie Krysta claimed bronze in the women's shot put with a score of 12.45m.
  • Cadet (11.99m) and Michel (11.51m) also scored podium placements in the women's triple jump, placing second and third respectively.
  • The women's 4x400m team of India Ingemi, Caroline Mullady, Ali Murphy, and Sadai Headley-Mawasi scored second with a time of 3:55.29.
 
BU SHARON COLYEAR-DANVILLE SEASON OPENER
  • Sydney Adams ran the fourth-fastest women's 5K in program history with a time of 16:55.98.
 
Up Next
The Minutewomen will be idle until after the new year when they host the UMass Amherst Winter Opener at the TRACK at New Balance on January 12th.
