AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer prepares for two Atlantic 10 road contests this week, beginning with a visit to the nation's capital to take on George Washington on Thursday, October 3, at 3 p.m. The Minutewomen then travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to face Saint Joseph's on Sunday, October 6, at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
Last Time Out
UMass currently sits at 8-3-1, including 3-1-0 in the A-10, after defeating Fordham, 4-2, and Rhode Island, 2-1, last week.  
 
Against Fordham, the UMass offense got off to a quick start as senior forward Chandler Pedolzky made it a 1-0 game with a header in the 24th minute. About five minutes later, senior midfielder Bella Recinos notched a goal of her own at the 28:33 mark to go up 2-0 at the half. Senior defender Juliana Ryan and senior forward Ashley Lamond scored the third and fourth goals for the Minutewomen, respectively, to push ahead 4-0. Fordham was able to score two goals of their own, but Massachusetts held on for the victory.
 
On Sunday, UMass edged out Rhode Island, registering its first goal only five minutes into the contest. Graduate student midfielder Ella Curry posted her second goal of the season off a free kick to go up 1-0. URI tied up the game at 1-1 soon after with a goal of their own before the second half. A corner kick in the final 45 minutes from Curry sailed its way into the box, where graduate student defender Hannah Peric headed the ball towards the top corner of the net for her first of the year, extending the Minutewomen's lead to 2-1.
 
In The Rankings
Massachusetts earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches East Region Rankings for the fifth straight week, currently sitting in eighth, moving up one spot from last week. The team is behind Georgetown, Saint Louis, Xavier, UConn, Princeton, Brown and Harvard, while ranking ahead of Loyola Chicago and Creighton.
 
Mendoza is 15th in the NCAA rankings with six shutouts on the season, and is one of only three goalkeepers in the A-10 to sit within the top-30.
 
Record Book Tracking
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza placed her name on the program's career saves list, ranking eighth after collecting her 244th save against Rhode Island.
 
Mendoza earned her sixth shutout of the year against in the 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure, etching her name in the career records for the program. The San Ramon, California, native, is now tied for seventh with former Minutewoman Cassidy Babin (2104-17) with 17 career shutouts.
 
Additionally, graduate student midfielder Ella Curry put her name on the career games played list, tying for sixth with 82 games played. She is also tied for eighth with 75 games started.
 
A-10 Standings
The Minutewomen are currently tied for first in the A-10 standings alongside Dayton with a 3-1-0 record in league play.
 
Rounding out the top-five, Saint Louis is third with a 2-0-1 record, with Fordham sitting fourth with a 2-1-1 league record. Loyola Chicago and VCU are tied for fifth as both teams hold a 1-0-3 record.
 
Statistically Speaking
UMass is sixth in points in the A-10 with 59, while ranking sixth in goals (20) and fifth in assists (19). Massachusetts is tied for first in shutouts with six on the season, alongside Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis and Dayton.
 
Recinos leads the team in points (12) and goals (five), while adding two assists on the season. Her five goals tie her for fifth in the league. She also leads the team in game-winning goals with two and is tied for second in the A-10 Conference.
 
Chandler Pedolzky and Curry leads the team in assists with three each on the year, while Pedolzky follows close behind in points with 11, notching four goals on the season.

Mendoza tallied 1,080 minutes in net for the Minutewomen, averaging a .830 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .792 save percentage. She has also accumulated six shutouts on the year.

Mendoza has placed herself in the conference rankings, sitting sixth in goals-against-average with a .830. She is also tied for seventh in total saves with 38, while tying for first in shutouts with six, averaging .500 shutouts per game.
 
Scouting George Washington
The Minutewomen hold a 21-11-3 advantage over the Revolutionaries in the all-time series. The two programs first met on September 20, 1981, when UMass edged GW with a 1-0 shutout victory in Amherst. Massachusetts and George Washington met last season at Rudd Field on September 14 with UMass winning 2-0 on the day.
 
George Washington currently sits at 3-5-3 overall, including 1-1-1 in the A-10, drawing George Mason, 1-1, last Sunday. The Revolutionaries won their conference opener, 1-0, over St. Bonaventure, before falling to Saint Louis, 4-0.
 
Alicia Window leads the Revolutionaries with six points with a team-leading three goals, including a team-best two game-winners. Lauren Prentice and Isabel Kelly follow behind with five points (two goals, one assist) and four points (two goals) respectively. Window tallied a team-high 16 shots, with seven on goal. Ainsley Lumpe has spent the most time in net for GW, accumulating 813 minutes. Lumpe holds a 2-5-2 record with one shutout on the year, while recording a 1.88 GAA and a .691 save percentage.
 
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Minutewomen lead the Hawks, 17-6-1, in the all-time series. UMass and Saint Joseph's first met on September 28, 1996, with Massachusetts shutting out SJU, 4-0. The two teams met last season, as the Minutewomen defeated the Hawks, 2-0.

Saint Joseph's is 4-3-4 overall on the season, while sitting at 0-1-2 in A-10 competition. The Hawks tied La Salle (1-1) and VCU (1-1) this season, and dropped a 2-0 match to Davidson.
 
Natalie Nevins leads the team in points with eight, registering two goals and adding a team-high four assists. Emily Hanrahan follows with six points, tallying a team-best three goals. Nevins has taken the most shots with 25, with Hanrahan taking 21. Nevins has placed 12 of her shots on goal, while Hanrahan has 11 on target. Katie Cappelletti has competed in net for the Hawks in all 11 games, totaling 988 minutes. She holds a 0.820 GAA and a .866 save percentage on the year with three shutouts.
 
SJU will take on No. 20 Saint Louis on the road on Thursday, October 3, prior to Sunday's match.
 
Looking Ahead
Massachusetts will take a break before returning to the pitch on Sunday, October 13, to compete against Dayton at Rudd Field at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
