July 10, 2023 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-3, 199-pound left-shot forward Liam Gorman to the squad for 2023-24 as a graduate transfer from Princeton, UMass head coach Greg Carvel announced on Tuesday. Gorman, a native of Arlington, Massachusetts, is the 11th newcomer the Minutemen have added to the roster this offseason, joining graduate defensemen Samuli Niinisaari and freshmen forwards Bo Cosman, Dans Locmelis, Jack Musa, Cameron O'Neill, Aydar Suniev and Nicholas VanTassell, defenseman Sebastian Törnqvist and goaltenders Michael Hrabal and Jackson Irving.
"Liam Gorman is a big power forward who can play down the middle," said Carvel. "He combines size and work ethic with his ability to score goals. He will add valuable experience, leadership and maturity to our forward group after playing in the ECAC for three seasons. Liam is a high character kid who will be a great fit for UMass hockey."
Gorman was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft at 177th overall and the Chicago Blackhawks currently hold his rights. He appeared in 91 games over three seasons at Princeton and posted 36 points on 16 goals and 20 assists.
This past season with the Tigers, Gorman enjoyed a breakout season offensively as he registered 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists to rank second on the squad in scoring. He served as a team captain and garnered All-Ivy League Second Team recognition, as well.
A two-time ECAC All-Academic Team member (2020-21, 2021-22), Gorman played high school hockey at St. Sebastian's prior to attending Princeton and was a two-time captain for the squad. Gorman earned first-team All-Independent School League (ISL) honors twice while guiding St. Sebastian's to the finals of the ISL in 2019. He collected All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) East and Boston Herald All-Scholastic honors in 2019.
Over 109 career games at St. Sebastian's, Gorman totaled 97 points, scoring 43 goals and dishing 53 assists.
