Women's Track & Field Takes Third In Atlantic 10 Championships

AMHERST, Mass. – Junior Lillian Kirry won her second consecutive gold in 400 meter hurdles and also scored points in 100 meter hurdles as UMass women's track and field finished third at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Sunday at the UMass Track & Field Complex. The Minutewomen totaled 108.5 points, trailing only A-10 champion George Mason (161 points) and VCU (130.5 points) in the 15-team field. Massachusetts also saw two school records and four additional top-eight all-time marks set on the final day of competition.
UMass will next travel to the New England Championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 13-14, in Dedham, Massachusetts.
- Kirry took the 400m hurdles title in 57.74 seconds to break the meet record, facility record and the program record. She also scored in 100 meter hurdles with the No. 4 all-time mark, taking fourth at the meet in 14.08 seconds, while Adriana Phan was eighth with a personal best time of 14.45.
- UMass' 4x400m relay team of Kathryn Nippert, Daniella Pierre, Marielsa McBride and Kirry ran 3:45.86 to a bronze medal, the sixth-fastest 4x400 time in program history.
- The 4x100m squad of Phan, Nippert, Grace Poku and Faith Richardson set a new school record, combining to run 46.81 seconds, good for fifth in the meet.
- Richardson took fifth in the 100m dash, improving her No. 2 time in program history to 11.93 seconds.
- On the track UMass also scored in the 1,500m run as Grace Phair was seventh (4:33.42) and the 4x800m relay team of Rebekah James, Hoenes, Jennifer Nadig and Alexsandra Bettencourt placed sixth (9:08.90)
- The Minutewomen scored two in discus as Natalie Krysta was fourth with a throw of 145 feet, 2 inches to enter the record book at No. 5 all-time, and Gabriella Pagnini was sixth (141-5). Pagnini also scored in shot put, taking seventh (42'7").
- Freshman Megan Frazee was named the women's Most Outstanding Rookie of the Meet after winning gold in pole vault on Saturday. She is the third Minutewoman in program history to earn the honor outdoors.
UMass will next travel to the New England Championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 13-14, in Dedham, Massachusetts.
