Massachusetts Women's Track And Field Wins Flagship Opener

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team opened up home meet action on Saturday as they hosted the Flagship Opener. The Minutewomen took first place in the field of 19 teams with a score of 119.
Highlights from Competition:

Faith Richardson captured second place in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 12.13 seconds.

Kathryn Nippert, Sadai Headley-Mawasi, and Richardson captured second, third, and fifth places in the 200-meter dash, running times of 25.13, 25.43, and 25.55 seconds, respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, Lillian Kirry took second place with a 55.38 second run, while Headley-Mawasi took sixth place in 57.69 seconds.

Jennifer Nadig ran to sixth place (2:18.27) and Alexsandra Bettencourt ran to eighth place (2:17.00) in the 800-meter run.

Kirry clocked a third place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.64 seconds, while Jennifer Williams clocked an eighth place finish in 15.19 seconds.

Annika Zuschlag won the steeplechase in 11:23.25 and Erin Shipos took eighth place in 12:12.83.

The 4x400-meter relay "A" team of Nadig, Marielsa McBride, Sarah Witt, and Maria Wood took second place in 4:01.39, while the "B" team of Alexsandra Bettencourt, Hannah Rose Beckman, Charlotte Henning, and Grace Wils took third in 4:05.25.

McBride took third place in the high jump with a 5'5" leap.

Megan Frazee won the pole vault with a 11' 11.75" leap, tying her for No. 4 all-time at UMass in the event, while Jessica Anderson tied for eighth place with a 10' 11.75" leap.

Jordan Lafave, Tiarra Deveaux, and Nippert captured second, third, and fourth places in the long jump with 18' 11.75", 18' 9.75", and 18' 7" marks.

In the triple jump, Gabrielle Bilong won with a 38' 3.25" leap.

Gabriella Pagnini took sixth place in both shot put (40' 7.75") and discus (135' 2") on the day.

Voski Armenakyan threw 164' 7" in the hammer for a fifth-place finish.

Anna Cozzolino (132' 5"), Aaliyah Alleyne (121' 10"), and Sara Folan (120' 4") placed third, fifth, and sixth in the javelin.
The Minutewomen look to host the UMass Multi Meet this coming Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13 before splitting the squad between the UMass Commonwealth Invite at home and the Husky Challenge at UConn on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.
