Massachusetts Women's Track And Field Shines At Black & Gold Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team continued action in the Black & Gold Invitational on Sunday at Bryant University. The meet was highlighted by two first-place finishes and a second overall team finish of 17.
Highlights from Competition:

The 4x100-meter relay team of Adriana Phan, Maria Wood, Alysia Spencer and Grace Poku ran a 48.75, good for third place on the day.

Megan Frazee won the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a 14.77 on the day. Alexandra Gonet (14.81, third) and Adriana Phan (14.84, fourth) followed.

Marielsa McBride took fifth place in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 59.77. Sarah Witt followed in seventh place with a time of 59.88.

Alexsandra Bettencourt collected fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:18.31.

Alexandra Gonet captured third place in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.16.

In the javelin, Aaliyah Alleyne threw 141' 2" for third place and No. 4 all-time at UMass, while Anna Cozzolino threw 133' 11" for sixth on the day.

Emery Stamper leapt the farthest for the Minutewomen in the long jump, recording a 17' 4.25" mark for fifth place. Courtney Rowland followed in eighth place with a 17' 0.75" jump.

Gabrielle Bilong collected fifth place in the triple jump with a 36' 0.25" mark.

Rowland and McBride took the 1-2 spots in the high jump, with Rowland winning the event with a 5' 5.75" clear and McBride clearing 5' 3.75".

Natalie Krysta picked up a fourth place finish in discus, throwing 138' 1", with Gabriella Pagnini following closely behind in fifth place with a 134' 9" toss.

Grace Sciacca leapt 10' 2" in pole vault for eighth place.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Gonet, Witt, Elizabeth Hoenes, and Jennifer Nadig ran a time of 4:01.27, good for fourth place.
The Minutewomen return to the track on Saturday, April 8 for the Flagship Opener meet at the UMass Track & Field Complex.
