AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team concludes its back-to-back on the road with a Saturday afternoon matchup at La Salle. The Minutemen and Explorers tip-off from Tom Gola Arena at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
Series With La Salle
Saturday's matchup marks the 50th all-time meeting between the Minutemen and the Explorers with UMass leading the series 29-20. UMass fell to La Salle in its previous matchup this season in the Mullins Center 78-77. Five different Minutemen finished in double figures in the loss, led by 15 points from Noah Fernandes and 14 from RJ Luis.
Bench Boost
UMass ranks ninth in the country and leads the Atlantic 10 in bench points per game at 30.2. The Minutemen have outscored their opponent's bench in 17 contests and have been outscored in just four games this season. Dyondre Dominguez leads the bench scoring attack with 9.3 points per game while Isaac Kante adds 6.8.
Sharpshooting
Dyondre Dominguez ranks sixth among Atlantic 10 leaders in field goal percentage at .549 and is fourth in field goal percentage among leaders who have attempted 150 or more shots this season.
Crashing The Boards
The Minutemen are 20th in the nation and second in the A-10 in offensive rebounds per game at 12.8 and rank 43rd nationally in rebounds per game at 37.9. Matt Cross leads the team in offensive boards per game at 2.6 to rank sixth in the conference.
Cross' Career Day
Matt Cross scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-15 from the field against Davidson in his first game back after being out since Jan. 25. The junior poured in 17 of his points in the first half and also went 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Dishing It Out
Keon Thompson became the third different player in an Atlantic 10 game this season to post 12 or more assists as he hit the mark in the game against Davidson on Saturday. The freshman marked the 10-most assists in a game in the conference this season and most by a freshman.
Getting To The Line
UMass attempts 20.4 free throws per game to rank 66th nationally and fourth in the conference. Matt Cross leads the team with 86 free throw attempts while converting on 79-percent with RJ Luis ranking second on the team with 68 attempts.
Kante Among Active Leaders
Isaac Kante ranks 37th among active DI leaders in career rebounds with 812 and ranks 42nd in career double-doubles with 21.
Looking Ahead
The Minutemen return home to the Mullins Center on Tuesday, Feb. 14 for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Loyola Chicago in one of three remaining home games. UMass plays its second to last road game on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Rhode Island at 2 p.m. on ESPNU.
