Minutewomen Fall To Washington State At Cancun Challenge

Stefanie Kulesza scored a career and game-high 20 points to go along with 11 boards for her third double-double.
RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team dropped game two of the Cancun Challenge to Washington State on Friday afternoon, 90-48. Stefanie Kulesza scored a career-high 20 points to lead all scorers while adding a game-high 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Kristin Williams gave UMass an early 9-6 advantage at the 5:28 mark of the opening quarter with her first of two made 3-pointers on the afternoon before the Cougars rattled off an 18-0 scoring run to pull ahead 24-9. Dallas Pierce ended the scoring run with a reverse layup and scored four straight for the Minutewomen to help give her a career-high seven points.
Washington State led 24-11 at the first break behind a 64-percent shooting effort and shot 54-percent from the field on the afternoon. UMass finished the game with a 33-percent mark from the field while recording a 41-percent effort in the fourth quarter.
Williams finished with eight points, three rebounds, and two assists while Bre Bellamy added six points and three boards. In addition to her double-double, Kulesza added an assist, steal, and a block while shooting 2-of-4 from 3-point range.
The Minutewomen conclude play at the Cancun Challenge tomorrow against Maryland at 11 a.m. on FloHoops. UMass follows with road matchups at Yale and Boston College before returning home to take on UMass Lowell on Dec. 10.
