UMass Drops First Game Of Cancun Challenge To Green Bay

Stefanie Kulesza scored a team-high 11 points to go along with seven boards while Jermany Mapp added 10 points.
RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team fell to Green Bay in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge on Thursday afternoon, 85-52. The Minutewomen continue play in Mexico tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET against Washington State on FloHoops.
Stefanie Kulesza finished with team-high marks in both scoring and rebounding with 11 and seven, respectively, while Jermany Mapp joined Kulesza in double figures with 10 points.
Green Bay jumped out to a 9-0 start on the game before Mapp knocked down a 3-pointer after the UMass timeout. Mapp finished the game 4-of-8 from the field. After falling behind 20-7, UMass scored five points in the final two minutes of the opening quarter starting on a Kulesza turnaround jumper before Kristin Williams put in one of her three triples to make it a 10-point game at the first break, 22-12. The Phoenix shot 50-percent from the field in the first half to take a 45-18 halftime lead.
The Minutewomen scored 34 of their points in the second half while shooting exactly 50-percent from the field in the final 20 minutes of action. UMass converted on five of eight attempts from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter, with Williams and Dallas Pierce each knocking down a pair from deep.
UMass follows tomorrow's game against the Cougars with the final matchup of the Cancun Challenge on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Maryland before returning back to the states for road games at Yale and Boston College.
