Pierce, Quigg Set School Records On Final Day At Terrier Invitational

Massachusetts swimming & diving record five top-10 all-time marks to conclude competition.
BOSTON – University of Massachusetts swimming and diving concluded its time at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Sunday evening at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center. The Miinutemen finished second with a total of 1,579.5, while the Minutewomen placed third with a score of 1,223.
Graduate student Summer Pierce broke the school record in the 200 butterfly for the Minutewomen, recording a time of 1:59.68, surpassing the previous record time of 2:00.13 held by Pierce last season. Sophomore Sammy Quigg set the school record with a time of 44.02 in the 100 freestyle, breaking the previous record of 44.62 held by Brian McIver in the 1989-90 season.
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen had three top-three finishes on the day, tallying one first-place finish.
Senior Megan Mitchell earned the first top-three placement of the day in the 200 backstroke, swimming a season-best time of 1:57.92 to take second place. Senior Caroline Mahoney placed fourth in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 51.01, while freshman Diya Ackerman-Vallala finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke, recording the eighth fastest time all-time in program history and a personal-best of 2:21.04.
In addition to Pierce's personal-best time to finish first in the 200 butterfly, junior Anna Kwon took fourth after earning a season-best time of 2:04.00, which also marked the seventh fastest time in program history.
In the lone relay event, the team of freshman Beren Cakiroglu, Mitchell, senior Maggie Desmond and Mahoney claimed the bronze with a combined time of 3:26.09 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Men's Swimming & Diving
The Minutemen tallied seven top-three finishes on the day, while picking up two gold medals.
Senior Wilson Dubois kicked off the finals in the 1650 freestyle with a third-place finish with a season-best time of 16:08.87, followed by freshman Jude Boukarroum in fourth place with a personal-best time of 16:13.75 and junior Jake Bailey in fifth with a season-best 16:13.77 time.
Senior Eric Eastham took third in the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:49.14, before Quigg collected the gold with his personal-best time in the 100 freestyle. Senior Sam Haddad recorded a season-best time of 2:03.08 in the 200 breaststroke to place third, as fellow classmate Jack Artis followed close behind in fourth with a season-best of 2:03.48.
Freshman Aydin Erkan recorded the sixth fastest all-time mark of 1:49.88 in the 200 butterfly to touch the wall first. It also marked a personal-best time for the rookie. Senior Charles Blanc swam a time of 1:52.45, registering a season-best and a third-place finish in the event.
For the Minutemen, the 400 freestyle relay team consisting of senior Juan Montori, freshman Alonso Montori, Eastham and Quigg earned the silver medal with a combined time of 3:01.66.
Next Up
The women's swimming and diving team will wrap up competition for the semester on Saturday, December 2, with a dual meet in Burlington, Vermont, to take on Vermont at 1 p.m.
The men's team, along with the women's squad, will return to the pool on Saturday, January 6, for Senior Day at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool to compete against Bryant. Diving events begin at 11 a.m., while swimming events start at 1 p.m.
Day Two
Swimming & Diving Completes Day Two At Terrier Invite With Nine Top-10 All-Time Marks
Pierce records two individual event top-10 all-time marks alone.
University of Massachusetts swimming and diving completed day two of the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, setting nine top-10 all-time records on the afternoon at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center. After two days of competition, the Minutemen sit in second (1,117), while the Minutewomen are in third (867).
Graduate student Summer Pierce swam the program's all-time fastest time of 53.77 in the 100 butterfly, while swimming the seventh fastest time all-time of 1:03.54 in the 100 breaststroke. Pierce aided in achieving the fastest time in program history in the 200 medley relay, as the squad finished with a time of 1:42.15.
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen had seven top-three finishes on the day, tallying one first-place finish.
Freshman Diya Ackerman-Vallala kicked off the finals in the 400 individual medley, placing sixth with the 10th fastest time all-time and a season-best of 4:31.54. Pierce collected the gold in the 100 butterfly with her personal-best time of 53.77, while senior Ashley Calderon swam a personal-best of 54.91 in the event to claim the fourth fastest all-time mark.
In the 200 freestyle, freshman Beren Cakiroglu earned her personal-best time of 1:52.06 to finish in second-place. During the 100 breaststroke, Pierce took second with her personal-best time of 1:03.54, followed by senior Maggie Desmond in third with a season-best time of 1:03.89 and freshman Lindsay Burbage in seventh with a personal-best time of 1:04.30. Desmond's time marked the eighth fastest time in program history, while Burbage landed 10th in the all-time records with her time.
Senior Megan Mitchell touched the wall third in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 55.37, marking a season-best.
The 200 medley relay team of senior Bri Williams, Burbage, Pierce and Desmond broke a previous all-time record from the 2021-22 season after taking third with a time of 1:42.15. Williams, Pierce and Desmond were all members of the previous team that held the record time of 1:42.32.
Cakiroglu, Ackerman-Vallala, junior Anna Kwon and senior Caroline Mahoney placed second in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:34.50.
Men's Swimming & Diving
The Minutemen tallied six top-three finishes on the day, while picking up three gold medals.
Senior Wilson Dubois started the men's squad off with a fourth-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a season-best time of 4:03.78. In the 100 butterfly, senior Juan Montori claimed the silver with a person-best time of 49.52, marking the 10th fastest time in the all-time records. Junior Jake Bailey followed Montori in fourth with a season-best time of 50.76, while senior Charles Blanc took fifth, swimming a personal-best time of 50.92.
Sophomore Sammy Quigg recorded in all-time top-10 mark, placing seventh on the list, in the 200 freestyle. Quigg touched the wall first swimming a personal-best time of 1:37.93 in the event.
During the relay events, the team of junior Beau Bengston, senior Jack Artis, junior Grant Beebe and Quigg swam into second-place with a combined time of 1:30.94 in the 200 medley relay. The 800 freestyle relay saw Montori, graduate student Emerson Kiefer, senior Eric Eastham, and Quigg earn the gold with a time of 6:40.70.

Sophomore Shreeya Sinha earned a six-dive total of 218.45 in the three-meter dive to finish sixth, while sophomore Salem Howes placed 10th with a score of 205.15, for the Minutewomen.
Sophomore Andrew Bell took home the gold in the one-meter dive with a total of 327.25 after six dives, while graduate student Tommy Cotner picked up the silver earned a season-best score of 276.35 in the event.
Day One
Swimming & Diving Records Five Top-10 Program Marks On Day One At Terrier Invite
The Minutewomen posted four of the five all-time records on the day.
University of Massachusetts swimming and diving finished day one action at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center, recording five top-10 all-time program marks, including four from the women's team. The Minutewomen currently sit in third (391), while the Minutemen are in second place (490).
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen three top-three finishes on the day, seeing one first-place finish.
Graduate student Summer Pierce touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley with a personal-best time 2:01.68. Pierce's time also marked the second fastest time all-time in program history, breaking her own previous record of 2:03.73. Freshman Diya Ackerman-Vallala recorded the sixth fastest all-time mark in the event with her own personal-best time of 2:05.57 to claim fifth.
Sophomore Lexi Alexen took sixth in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:06.58, while senior Caroline Mahoney swam a season-best time of 23.21 in the 50 freestyle to place sixth.
The 200 freestyle relay team consisting of freshman Beren Cakiroglu, senior Megan Mitchell, Mahoney and senior Maggie Desmond combined for a time of 1:32.76, breaking the previous all-time program record of 1:32.78 (2018-19). The relay team placed third, while Cakiroglu led off with a personal-best time of 24.04 in the 50 freestyle.
Senior Bri Williams, freshman Lindsay Burbage, Pierce and Mahoney made up the Minutewomen's 400 medley relay team that claimed the silver with all-time program record time of 3:43.71. The squad broke the previous record of 3:45.01 form the 2013-14 season.
Men's Swimming & Diving
The Minutemen tallied five top-three finishes on the day, while collecting one gold medal.
Senior Wilson Dubois kicked off the men's individual events with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle, swimming a season-best time of 4:36.18, while freshman Jude Boukarroum followed in fourth with a season-best time of 4:38.09.
Senior Sam Haddad earned the silver after swimming a season-best time of 1:50.72 in the 200 individual medley. Fellow classmate Juan Montori placed sixth in the event, recording a personal-best time of 1:53.63.
Sophomore Sammy Quigg put himself in the all-time records in the 50 freestyle after touching the wall first in the event. Quigg swam the seventh fastest time in program history, posting a 20.46 mark.
During the relay events, the team of junior Grant Beebe, Montori, senior Charles Blanc and Quigg finished second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.82. In the 400 medley relay, the Minutemen grabbed another silver medal, as senior Eric Eastham, Haddad, Montori and Quigg combined for a time of 3:18.74.

Sophomore Shreeya Sinha placed fourth in the one-meter dive for the Minutewomen, scoring a six-dive total of 242.75, marking a personal-best.
For the Minutemen, sophomore Andrew Bell claimed the gold in the three-meter dive with a six-dive score of 358.55, while graduate student Tommy Cotner scored a season-best 266.55 to collect the silver.
Graduate student Summer Pierce broke the school record in the 200 butterfly for the Minutewomen, recording a time of 1:59.68, surpassing the previous record time of 2:00.13 held by Pierce last season. Sophomore Sammy Quigg set the school record with a time of 44.02 in the 100 freestyle, breaking the previous record of 44.62 held by Brian McIver in the 1989-90 season.
Women's Swimming & Diving

Senior Megan Mitchell earned the first top-three placement of the day in the 200 backstroke, swimming a season-best time of 1:57.92 to take second place. Senior Caroline Mahoney placed fourth in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 51.01, while freshman Diya Ackerman-Vallala finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke, recording the eighth fastest time all-time in program history and a personal-best of 2:21.04.
In addition to Pierce's personal-best time to finish first in the 200 butterfly, junior Anna Kwon took fourth after earning a season-best time of 2:04.00, which also marked the seventh fastest time in program history.

Desmond's time marked the eighth fastest time in program history, while Burbage landed 10th in the all-time records with her time.
