UMass’ Danielle Hack Becomes Third Woman In Program History To Advance To ITA Super Regionals

Hack posted a perfect 3-0 record in the ITA Regionals singles competition, going 2-1 in doubles with partner Thamonpan Jongertrakul

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– University of Massachusetts tennis posted an impressive 11-6 overall record at the ITA Northeast Regionals on Friday, October 6 through Sunday, October 8. Five Minutewomen competed on the weekend, before senior Danielle Hack became the third women in UMass tennis history to advance into the singles competition of ITA Super Regionals. 

Hack went 3-0 across singles play, including two victories over seeded opponents. The senior first claimed a win over Quinnipiac's Dominique Yeo, 6-1, 6-1 into the round of 32. Hack punched her ticket to Super Regionals with a pair of 6-4, 6-4 victories over Harvard's Natalie Block and Yale's Orly Ogilvy.

The UMass student athlete of the week, teamed up with partner Thamonpan Jonglertrakul as the sixth seed in the doubles side of the draw. Here they claimed two victories over foes from Rhode Island and Yale, before falling 4-8 against Harvard's Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff in the Quarterfinals.

The first round of competition began on Friday, where the Minutewomen remained undefeated across the five matches played on the day. Jonglertrakul, Ella Faessler, Mariana Campino, and Amelia Tye earned wins over their respective singles opponents into the round of 64. The pairing of Faessler/Tye claimed the lone UMass doubles match of the day, winning 8-5 over Kaitlin Tan and Emily Zhao of Boston University.

Both Hack and Thamonpon Jonglertrakul received byes' into Saturday's competition.

On Saturday Hack and Faessler furthered into the singles' round of 32, before Faessler ultimately fell to Boston College's Natalie Eordekian 0-6, 4-6.

The team of Faessler/Tye dropped their third round doubles match on Sunday against Erin Ha and Mirabelle Brettkelly of Yale, 2-8.

Hack will travel to Super Regionals hosted at Army's West Point, N.Y. in two weeks on Friday, October 20 through Sunday, October 22. 

The Minutewomen look ahead to the next tournament on their fall slate, the Brown Classic– hosted by Brown University on Saturday, October 14 through Sunday, October 15.
