Massachusetts Tennis Completes Weekend At Brown Classic

The Minutewomen picked up victories over UNC Wilmington, Villanova and Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Massachusetts tennis concluded its visit to the Brown Classic in Providence, Rhode Island this weekend. Across the tournament six Minutewomen played, teaming up to defeat three of the four teams they faced.
In doubles play, the duo of Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye went undefeated on the weekend, collecting a perfect 3-0 record over their opponents from Brown, UNC Willmington, and Villanova.
In the singles competition, all except one Minutewomen competing picked up wins on Saturday. Faessler defeated Ali Benedetto of Brown, 5-4, (4) 5-2, while Polina Akimova triumphed over the Bears' Lindsey Hofflander, 4-2, 4-2. Though their victories were not enough to earn the win against Brown collectively, Thamonpan Jonglertrakul, Renata Farima and Compassion Tsai each garnered assertive matches over their respective UNC Wilmington opponents; giving UMass a 4-3 win over the team.
On Sunday, Massachusetts gained back-to-back victories over Villanova and Rhode Island. In addition to Faessler/Tye's doubles wins, the pairing of Mariana Campino and Jonglertrakul gave UMass the upper edge with 6-2 and 6-3 victories over their opposing foes.
Both Campino and Tye picked up singles wins over their respective matchups, Campino dominating 4-0, 4-0 over Villanova's Valieriia Kornieva, while Tye posted a 1-4, 4-3, 0-1 contest versus Maddie Hills of the Wildcats. The final score over Villanova was 4-2.
Against Rhode Island, Campino and Jonglertrakul amassed their second singles victories of the weekend, bettering the Rams for a 3-1 overall tally.

UMass looks ahead to Super Regionals hosted at West Point, N.Y. on Friday, October 20 to Saturday, October 21, where Danielle Hack will compete in the tournament.
