Minutemen Draw With No. 25 Duquesne At Rudd Field

September 24, 2022 | Men's Soccer

The Minutemen finished with a 19 to seven shot advantage in the scoreless draw.

AMHERST, Mass. The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against No. 25-ranked Duquesne on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. The draw helped the Minutemen (5-0-4 Overall, 0-0-2 Atlantic 10) remain unbeaten heading into Tuesday's non-conference matchup at Vermont.

UMass posted a 19 to seven shot advantage on the afternoon and put five of its shots on target. Alec Hughes attempted a team-leading seven shots and put a pair on target while Jack Englebert added two of his own shots on target. Hughes had one of his best attempts of the afternoon in the 42nd-minute with a shot up top that was pushed over the bar by Duquesne's Domenic Nascimben for one of his five saves on the day.

Nick Zielonka nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 81st-minute, creating some space in the box to open up a left-footed shot across goal that hit the post and went out of play.

Matt Zambetti finished with his second solo shutout of the year in goal for the Minutemen on his way to finishing with a pair of saves. The senior stopped both shots on target in the first half while the Dukes went without a shot on target in the final 45 minutes of play.

The Minutemen take on Vermont in Burlington, Vt. on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before resuming A-10 play on Saturday night at Fordham.
